Preston Park garden The fruit and vegetable garden in Preston Park was launched in March 2010, and it is located past the rose garden, behind the Rotunda Cafe. We aimed to create a flourishing garden packed with colour, textures, scent and taste. As well as operating as a resource for existing and new growers it aims to attract and introduce people to the idea of growing food. It has raised beds and containers showing different planting styles. The garden aims to show the possibilities of growing your own produce, even in a small space. You can follow the progress at the garden on our blog. Volunteering at the garden A team of local resident volunteers help maintain the garden and take home some of the harvest. We hold volunteer open days at the garden throughout the growing season where new people can come help out and learn new gardening skills. If you want to keep informed about open days and volunteering, please sign-up the Harvest email list (via the green box on our homepage) or contact us. Other community gardens Since we started our first garden, others have been inspired to start their own projects in spaces around the city, including a new vegetable garden run by local residents in Wish Park. Why not read about other new growing projects that are just starting up, or check out the volunteer workdays at community growing projects in Brighton & Hove. Tags: |

We wanted to setup a demonstration vegetable garden in a public space to show what is possible when growing your own, even in a small space. Our vegetable garden in Preston Park has been a great success and a team of local residents and volunteers help maintain the garden and take home some of the harvest.
